Sometime in 2000, youth camp meetings were very popular and it was during these times that the seed for Pent Project was sown.
It started as a mass choir that was put together for bi-annual camp meetings. So choirs from the Darkuman Official Town catchments area would come together before camp, rehearse and ready themselves for the camp.
Camps were held every second year so after the camp, this group, despite all the hardwork invested, would come to a halt. Consequently, over those years, the team decided to make this go beyond camp meetings to ministering at conventions, churches and even organising our own programs.
We also decided to open it up to non Pentecost Members. So it became necessary to have a name change from Darkuman Youth Masschoir, to Pent Project. The Pent would trace our roots and also represent the grace of the Holy Spirit and His manifestations through music. Pent, 5, Grace, Pentecost, Holy Spirit, COP.
Impact The group whipped up huge interest among young people in the church who would later go on to become Praise and Worship leaders for the church.
It also served as a base to nurture young talents in the right atmosphere that’s relevant and relatable. Out of many prayer meetings and rehearsal sessions, we grew. We had young people move into to various secondary schools and universities to great influences.
It helped keep many people in the church because they had a place to belong, that they loved and could relate to. When they returned from school, they had The Pent Project, that would welcome their growing taste in music and ministration. They also would bring from schools great lessons that aided the growth.
It gave young people an introduction to the contemporary gospel music, as the group would normally rehash old Pentecostal tunes and later write their own music.
There was a constant flow of membership; as some members would move on through marriage, migration, relocation etc, more young people would be brought in and nurtured. Hence the “Project” tag on it.
The group was spearheaded by the late Elder Emmanuel Akwei, the then Assistant Youth leader, with strong Backing from Elder Joe Aryee as well as various youth leaderships.
